Glovers is a family company and started trading in 1946 from a small general pet store in the Potteries, selling most common pets and foods etc. In the 50s we were one of the first in the North West of England to introduce a few tropical fish tanks and in the early 60s opened another small shop in Fenton to extend our range by stocking a few garden pools and fish etc, and to specialise only in aquatic items both to the retail and trade customer.

Rapid Expansion through the 70's
Both sides of the aquatic trade continued to grow and in the early 70s we had notification that one of our shops was due to be demolished due to road widening of the A50 through Fenton and Longton, and as our remaining shop was not big enough to put both sides into we purchased another 2 larger shops next door to each other in the same area and added a rear extension. Since that date we have added another 3 shops, had 5 extensions and purchased the land at the rear of all 5 shops to form our own private customer car park. Our customers come from far and wide, All over Stoke-on-Trent and the whole of Staffordshire of course; many travel from Cheshire, Derbyshire and surrounding counties and cities such as Birmingham, Manchester and Chester.

We are licensed to carry 50,000 pond and coldwater fish and 10,000 tropical fish in stock at any one time and also hold our own import licences from the Ministry of Agriculture to import direct from breeders in any part of the world. On the tropical side we specialise in compatible community fish and these are housed in approx 150 tanks. On the coldwater side we stock a wide variety of fish, all of which are compatible with each other and whose sizes vary from 1" to 16" and these are housed in our purpose built cold water fish room. Both sorts of fish also have full back up quarantine facilities and we have weekly imports direct from the country of origin. As from December 2003 we have also opened a reptile section and hope to add this on-line within the next few months.

Glyn and David are 3rd and 4th generation family members of the original founders and all members of staff are experienced fish keepers with many years experience of fish keeping and are fully able to advise on most aspects of equipment and fish husbandry. Unlike some mail order companies the majority of our lines are in stock and available for delivery within 2-3 days throughout the UK mainland and we use 48 hour couriers for delivery. Our aim is to provide you, the customer; with not just products - but to give expert advice and information.

We sell quality items at a reduced price - We do not sell inferior products cheaply (there is a big difference).
